Description of 2024 Camp Staff Positions

Thanks to our awesome dedicated staff, FLJDC is among the fastest growing Jewish day camps in Bergen County and offers a unique Jewish day camp experience filled with fun, excitement, trips, and new adventures.

The 2024 season of FLJDC will be located at the Yeshivat Noam campus in Paramus.

FLJDC is under the auspices of Bris Avrohom of Fair Lawn which is open year-round offering programs, holiday celebrations, religious services, Hebrew School, Summer Day Camp and so much more.

Our summer camp program runs for 8 weeks, with additional days of staff training before camp begins.

Our summer camp is composed of a variety of programs:
K-Junior Division - for children entering grades K - 2
Pioneer Division - for children entering grades 3 - 5
Adventure Camp - for children entering grades 6 - 8

Available Full-time Staff Positions Include:
Team Leader, Counselor, EMT, CIT, Floater/substitute counselor, Photographer.

Available Part-time Staff Positions Include:
Extra Care, Photographer, EMT, Floater/substitute counselor, Life Guard.

Below you will find a brief description of each staff position.

Team Leader:
Must be at least 21 years of age and a high school graduate. Must relate to and work well with
kids ages 5-13. Weekly wage will be determined based on experience, plus any tips you may receive from
parents. Team leaders are in charge of a division with up to 60 children (approximately) and assume
responsibility of supervision, leadership, management, and guidance of staff and campers which includes but is
not limited to, ensuring counselors have everything they need to do their jobs, bunks are on time for activities,
leading the division spirit, cheers and songs, managing trips, and attendance checklists, as well as managing
extra care for their division. Team leaders are responsible for interpreting and encouraging the rules, policies,
and traditions of FLJDC to counselors and campers.

Counselor:
Must be at least 16 years of age (adult counselor at least 18 years).
Must relate to and work well with kids ages 5-13.
Weekly pay rate plus bonuses ranges from approx. $250 - $360 per week depending on experience, (see staff pay
scale) plus any tips you may receive from parents. Counselors are in charge of a bunk with approx. 15 campers
and assume responsibility for supervision, leadership, and guidance of campers. Leads, or assists in leading, all
camp activities and off-site trips, sports, and swimming. Counselors are responsible for interpreting the rules,
policies, and traditions of FLJDC to campers.

Camp EMT:
Must be at least 18 years of age, have an EMT certification or higher, and employment or
volunteer experience in this field at a medical emergency organization (ambulance, hospital etc.). Weekly wage
begins at $450 and can go up depending on experience and certifications.
Oversees the health and safety of campers and staff. Responsible for the daily operation of FLJDC’s health
center. Responsible for all medical supplies, records, recordings and distributions. Is on call at all times during
camp hours.

Part time EMT position available to join children on off site trips.
Part time Life Guard position available to join children on off site water related trips and overnights.

'CIT' Counselors In Training (Volunteer Position):
For ages 14 -15. Must be completing 8th grade before camp begins.
Must relate and work well with kids. You will keep any tips you may receive.
CITs join bunks and their counselors as assistants, and participate with the bunk at the pool and on trips. May also have a rotating responsibility which will include some of the following: Setting up daily lunch and snacks at camp and on trips. Setting up and refilling water coolers outdoors. Help team leaders with activities set up and clean up.

Mother’s Helper (Volunteer Position):
Must be completing 8th grade before camp begins. Must relate and work well with kids. You will keep any tips you may receive. Assist in supervising children, encourage and join play time, assist in bathroom trips, classroom set up, changing for water play, preparing for nap time, snack time and lunch time. Must have a “Kids First” vision and place the camper’s safety and camp experience first. Must relate and work well with kids ages 1-5.

Floater/Substitute Counselor:
Same qualifications as a counselor. If you cannot commit to at least one session at camp, we will contact you if and when we need a substitute or floater staff.

Extra Care staff:
Must be at least 16 years of age. Must relate to and work well with kids ages 5-13. Extra care staff work part time, they come in to camp daily at 4pm, set up the extra care rooms, supervises kids in extra care and lead activities. Make sure that kids stuff are kept neat and organized, and that kids are brought to parents asap when they are called by the office. Extra care ends at 6pm. At that time staff clean up the room and put away all supplies.

Photographer (Volunteer Position):
Part time or full time position. Must have own camera and have photography
ambitions. Photograph camp activities, swimming, and trips.
